We have to admit that even the most experienced
of Believers can go through phases of growing somewhat cold
towards the things of God. This can range anything from being
"a little backslidden in heart" to "completely
off the rails", so really "The Prodigal" is for
anyone making their way back to the place that they should have
been all along.
Strangely enough, it has not just been Believers
that have voiced appreciation for this song, but even some non-Christians
have been encouraged; especially those that have gone through
a low point in their lives through drug or alcohol abuse. Having
worked in an addiction unit, it was refreshing to see addicts
touched by the words and learning to sing the song for themselves.
This surprised me at first, considering its strong Biblical
message of restoration and reconciliation to "The Father".
Then again, it taught me that we have to meet
people where they are at, and if it ministers, let us be glad
someone has taken a step towards "The Father".
I hope that you enjoy this song and if for
you, the path you have chosen has been difficult, remember that
you have a compassionate Heavenly Father awaiting your return
that will welcome you back as one of his own, one that was lost
and now is found.
Your robe and your ring is waiting... return.
